HBO

Careers website/Employer branding

The challenge:

HBO is an amazing place to work, but their lackluster careers website didn’t leave enough of an impression to stand out from the pack.

The idea:

In developing the concept, I focused on HBO’s award-winning programming to attract top-tier candidates who want to add to its media and technology innovation.

Once we had their attention, we used employee videos to give candidates an inside look at the people and culture that make HBO what it is.

The idea behind the idea:

Job candidates are looking for two things: a chance to create something amazing, and a great environment to do it in. We made sure to showcase both the environment and the “behind the scenes” members who make the magic happen in their own unique roles.

The landing page puts the candidate directly into a cinematic environment from one of HBO’s groundbreaking programs (in this case, Game of Thrones). They can explore and immerse themselves in the extraordinary world that HBO employees have created.

Each touchpoint in the scene connects an HBO employee—from paralegals to video editors, recruiters to systems analysts—to an aspect of the scene that they helped realize. Candidates can dive deep into these stories and contemplate how their own skills can help impact HBO’s great content.

Candidates can explore the scene and its contributors by panning left and right.

Selecting a touchpoint allows a candidate to see more about the employee, their role, and how they contributed to the finished product.

When the candidates pan beyond the edge of the scene, a small hint will appear to indicate that they can navigate to a different scene.

We defined a set of rules to allow additional show experiences to be created quickly and efficiently.

Users can reorganize the list of interviews so it’s easy to find relevant, personally interesting content.

Selecting “View All Interviews” at the bottom of the experience will open a modal that allows users to see all available interviews. This allows task-oriented users to jump directly into content.

From the detail page, the candidate can watch an interview with an HBO employee, learn more about the employee’s department, see open positions, and get a sense of what it’s like to work at HBO.
